About the Initiative

The Nova Scotia Digital Collections Initiative (NSDCI) is a multi-agency initiative concerned with digital projects in Nova Scotia. The Initiative was formed in May 2002 when the Nova Scotia Provincial Library hosted a day-long meeting with representatives from a wide variety of institutions and organizations with an interest in digital collections, including archives, museums, public libraries, universities, NSCC, and the Dalhousie School of Library and Information Studies.

The group expressed an interest in developing a web-based mechanism for sharing ideas for digital projects, as well as for training and funding opportunities, which would point to local, national and international resources. The site would serve as a clearing house and current awareness tool to promote best practices in digitization.

The NSDCI web site is primarily a tool for the various agencies involved in heritage activities in Nova Scotia. The secondary focus of the web site is to inform the public of digitization activities happening in Nova Scotia.
